Sports Medicine Physician
A Sports Medicine Physician is a medical doctor (MD) with specialized training in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sports and other activity-related injuries and conditions. The goal of a Sports Medicine Physician is to help you get better, while keeping you active during the rehabilitation process. Our Sports Medicine Physicians are also rehabilitation specialists who undergo a minimum of 5 years of additional training after the completion of medical school. A referral is required from your family doctor or a walk-in clinic in order to book an appointment to see a Sports Medicine Physician. Visits are covered under OHIP.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist (Physiatrist)
A Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist or Physiatrist (fiz-i-a-trist) is a medical doctor (MD) who specializes in the non-surgical treatment of individuals with bone, soft tissue, muscle, and nerve injuries. Physiatrists are specialists who undergo 5 years of additional training after the completion of medical school, and a referral is required from your family doctor or a walk-in clinic in order to book an appointment to see them. Visits are covered under OHIP.

EMG/NCS
EMG (electromyography) and NCS (nerves conduction studies) are tests to evaluate the electrical function of your nerves and muscles. These tests are performed jointly by EMG technologists and physicians, and may be ordered by your doctor to help diagnose certain medical conditions. A referral is required from your family physician or a walk-in clinic in order to book these tests. These tests are covered under OHIP.
