A clinical research trial is currently in progress entitled "The Effects of Global Osteopathic Treatment on Postpartum Low Back Pain". This study is being conducted by Riki Richter as part of the thesis requirements for completion of the diploma program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy. There are 45 subjects involved in an educational program, specific core stabilization exercise and osteopathic treatment. The outcome measures used are the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire 2 with Visual Analog Scale and the MyotonPro Myometer. The MyotonPro Myometer is a non-invasive tool that measures viscoelastic change in tissue. This study hopes to decrease postpartum low back pain and prove that gentle and non-invasive osteopathic treatment will improve health-related quality of life. Participants in this study will partake in up to six treatments over approximately six weeks at Synergy Sports Medicine.
